What lies behind every fabric
Our finishes don’t come out of a catalogue: they are developed, tested and measured in the lab. Here you’ll find, without embellishment, what was tested, how and where. It’s the most technical side of Bruna Marina®, for anyone who wants to go beyond the product page.

The studies
What was measured and what came out
We summarise each report with its real data. These are lab tests on fabric samples, not medical studies. The results describe how the fabric behaved in the test; they do not promise any health effects or protection against waves.
AITEX · 13/02/2019TURMAL.INK®: anion emission and wash resistance
- What was tested
- Poly-cotton sheet with the TURMAL.INK® tourmaline finish and a luminescent seal that only shows under ultraviolet light.
- How
- AITEX in-house method: the fabric is rubbed with a Crockmeter (30 rubs, one per second) next to a portable ion counter. It is then washed in a domestic machine at 40 °C (50 min, ECE reference detergent) and measured again after 10 and 20 washes.
- Result
- An average of 823 anions/cm³ of air unwashed, 804 after 10 washes and 777 after 20. The luminescent seal is permanent and remains visible after washing.
Other fabrics with TURMAL.INK® tested by AITEX with the same method: Dolce Confort tartan (11/02/2019), 786 anions/cm³; Soley Turmalink (report 2023AP0330, 23/10/2023), 411 anions/cm³.

AITEX · 20/12/2019SELF-CLEAN·INK®: photocatalysis and liquid repellency
- What was tested
- Stretch fabric with a titanium dioxide (TiO₂) finish, liquid repellency and a photochromic print that colours up in the light.
- How
- Removal of nitrogen oxides according to UNE-ISO 22197-1: 5 hours of UV activation and measurement in a photoreactor with a NOx analyser. Repellency according to AATCC 193 (water) and AATCC 118 (oil).
- Result
- It broke down 6.81% of NO and 4.18% of NOx: Class 1 under UNE 127197-1 (performance between 4% and 6%). Water repellency 8 out of 10 and oil repellency 4 out of 8.

AITEX · 31/10/2017ORGON.INK®: anions, static electricity and electromagnetic waves
- What was tested
- Two-layer fabric with a tourmaline finish and metal threads in weft and warp, developed together with Duvalli.
- How
- Anions with the in-house rubbing method. Charge dissipation according to UNE-EN 1149-3, the standard for electrostatic protective clothing. Attenuation of waves from 400 MHz to 40 GHz in an anechoic chamber, in dB as in ASTM D4935.
- Result
- An average of 1,114 anions/cm³. Half-decay time t50 below 0.01 s and protection factor S = 0.98 (the standard requires t50 < 4 s or S > 0.2). It attenuates the horizontal component of the waves by 10 to 20 dB, i.e. 90% to 99%; the vertical component passes through unattenuated.
The plug of the disconnection system was tested at ITE (report IE-ITE-180502, 18/07/2018): resistance to heat and fire under clause 30 of UNE-EN 60335-1, with a ball-pressure test at 125 °C and glow-wire tests at 550, 650 and 850 °C. Result: pass.
For the curious
Rub by rub
This is how AITEX recorded anion emission at each of the 30 rubs, in the four tourmaline fabrics it has tested. Emission rises and falls: tourmaline needs several rubs to activate.

AITEX · 24/07/2023 · 2023AP0194ELECTROSTATIC BALANCE®: three mattress fabrics
- What was tested
- Mattress fabrics combining ORGON.INK® and Biocrystal® in three versions: Normal, standard and Plus.
- How
- Charge dissipation according to UNE-EN 1149-3 and electromagnetic attenuation from 4 to 40 GHz, averaging both polarisations.
- Result
- All three dissipate the charge in under 0.01 s, with an S factor between 0.97 and 1.00. Average reduction in transmission: 42% (Normal), 72% (standard) and 92% (Plus), with peaks of 92%, 90% and 97%.

Biocrystal®: studies by the maker of the blend
- What was tested
- Biocrystal® is a blend of minerals and crystals by Biocrystal Technologies, applied to the fabric by printing.
- How
- The maker commissioned the Bion Institute to carry out double-blind, randomised studies with volunteers and a control product: foam with Biocrystal® blend (report 6/17, 2017), sewing thread with Biocrystal® (2016) and SleePad (certificate no. 0176, 2014).
These studies are on the blend, not on our finished products. That is why we don’t publish their conclusions or claim any health effects.
